CJR, AJC on the rocks
Like 'em or hate 'em -- or just don't care -- you should take note of the Editor and Publisher article highlighting the efforts to save American Journalism Review and Columbia Journalism Review.
The journalism community needs these sometimes not-so-gentle nudges. These two publications have done some wonderful work, especially in spotlighting the industry's weaknesses, such as cutbacks in coverage. Some research has shown that relatively few journalists read the publications covering their industry. That's sad, because if you don't know the mistakes others have made, you are likely to repeat them. And if you don't know the successes, you are less likely to repeat them.
