Did they have to put him down?

I have my copy-editing students troll for errors in the papers, on fliers, etc., as a way to get extra credit. Occasionally they come up with some weird ones, like this from a paper in South Carolina's Upstate.

Easley man struck by three vehicles

An Easley man was crossing highway 8 near East Baptist Church last Friday evening when he was struck and killed by oncoming traffic.

According to Lance Corporal Dan Marsceau of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Terry Lee Morgan, 48, was hit by a 1995 Chevrolet dually pickup heading towards Pickens. His body was then thrown into adjacent traffic and was hit by two more cars, a 1990 Mercury Sable and a Buick sedan. The incident occurred at about 8 p.m.

(The article then goes on to quote deputy coroner Kandy Kelley about the man's clothes, etc. Then comes this paragraph.)

Morgan's body was transported to Greenville for an autopsy. Kelley said he died from gunshot wounds. A toxicology report has not been released.

Huh?

Only one graf followed -- the standard boilerplate about the accident being investigated.

Guess it's just normal up in Easley to find your accident victims shot.
