The banished words list is out

Lake Superior State University's banished words list for 2005 is out with such overused chestnuts as:
  • Blue state/red state (a red state for those of my generation meant the USSR)
  • Battleground state
  • Enemy combatant (as opposed an an enemy noncombatant or a friendly combatant?)
  • Uber (amen to that)
  • Wardrobe malfunction (this one malfunctioned about 11 months ago)
  • And numerous others that really should be rarely taken out of our verbal quiver.
And, note that blog is on the list. As one nominator wrote: “Maybe it’s something that would be stuck in my toilet.”

Think about it. Maybe the public's trying to tell us something (grin).
