An extension of the Common Sense Journalism monthly column by Doug Fisher, former broadcaster, newspaper reporter and wire service editor. From new media to old, much of journalism is just plain common sense.
"In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock." - Thomas Jefferson
"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." - Upton Sinclair
"Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire
"Common sense is instinct; enough of it is genius" - George Bernard Shaw

There is no UPS delivery option that claims to deliver "by noon." Next Day Air is by 10:30 AM, Next Day Air Saver is by 3:00 PM.
But you probably meant the spelling of Kriss Kringle.
Doug, I had to look this up for a story. While Kriss Kringle is the normal style, the character in "Miracle on 34th Street" is Kris Kringle. So there is reason for confusion.
Yeah, but this ain't the movies :)
It's always been confused. That's why AP went out of the way recently to outpoint in its holiday style guide.
Not hitting on the Blondie folks - but these are always useful. I use "Edit the Comics" as one of the ways to teach editing. (Before everyone jumps on me, I know comics don't have to follow AP style. But I have students do it that way, and then we discuss why it might not have been in AP style - as in comics don't have to follow AP style.)
