But the award goes to ...

Having just panned the Michelle Kwan heds, we would be remiss here at CSJ if we did point out the truly tasteless.

And the winner is ....

E! Online, for this entry over last week's obit for character actor Franklin Cover, the co-star and foil for George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) on "The Jeffersons":

"Jeffersons" Star Moves on Up

On the other hand, a true gold medal goes to The (Columbia. S.C.) State for this headline over a story about a cheese dispute:

Parmesan plan grates on Italians

Now that's some classy work.

I give Slate a pass on this subject for what may sound like an odd reason: It *always* uses the worst groan-inducing puns you could possibly imagine. So I don't evaluate Slate headlines alongside those of publications that, I assume, try to avoid such things.

Well, true. And E! probably falls in the same category.

Yet the true groaners or tasteless deserve their day in the sun, if nothing else as a reminder that there, but for the grace of whatever go I.

Just performing a little public service here at CSJ central.
