AP/Microsoft on new video platform

AP and Microsoft have reached a deal that would roll out a pretty standard system across newspapers and broadcasters to serve up not only AP's video but local video as well (including that from users).

It's another of those turnkey solutions publishers love -- but that run the risk of homogenizing things (which I think is one of the reasons journalism organizations are struggling).

The cost of all this, it appears, is that the locals get to split the ad money with the AP and Microsoft.

(Thanks to Mark Hamilton for the pointer to the BeetTV story.)

Keep a close eye on this.
