Great multimedia - gettin' some RESPECT

Check out the Detroit Free Press package on the 40-year anniversary of Aretha Franklin's recording of "RESPECT." (As original composer Otis Redding says, she took the song away from him.)

This is a great example of how newsrooms can use digital media to do really fine, multilayered work (along with the main video, there are others on the site, including a funny one with others singing the song, including the Freep's music critic at a karaoke bar). In many respects, this sort of thing far outpaces today's TV, once again setting up the question that in 2009, when TV goes HD and the world goes mobile (because of all the resulting bandwidth that frees up), are traditionally "print" newsrooms positioning to take a slice away from broadcasters?
