Canceled subscriptions of note

ABC News Pres. David Westin says all newspaper and magazine subscriptions gotta go as part of cost-cutting efforts. We'll get it online, he says.

Most conventions will be off-limits, too.

I have been fearful about some smaller journalism organizations like the copy editors and capitol reporters that rely on their annual meetings for a good chunk of change. Will they be able to survive this economic crevasse?

Do news organizations pay the freight when one of their employees wants to attend a convention by one of the race- or sex-based journo organizations, such as the Unity convention, the conventions of organizations representing black, Latino, American Indian and Asian journalists, or the National Gay & Lesbian Journalists Association? I'm not a member of any of these and I don't know the answer to the question.

Some do, yes.
