BugMeNot
KPaul over at Jlog has some interesting thoughts on BugMeNot, the service that provides common log-ins for newspaper Web sites so that you can bypass the demands for demographic information.

Yes, I do supply a little-used e-mail account when I register to avoid spam.

I like Salon's idea of a free day pass by watching an ad. That way, I can come and go as I please and don't have to remember passwords, etc., and don't find it to be that much of an infringement. I find it interesting that more publishers have not gone that way, but I can see why. For a publisher with local focus, that would generate too many out-of-area hits, raising the CPM unnecessarily.
