SacBee finds the rules have changed
The headline on the Sacramento Bee's public editor's column says it all:
In this wired world, they who hesitate come in second
Read how the paper, thinking it had a scoop on FBI arrests of Muslims tied to al-Qaida in the town of Lodi, held off putting the story on its Web site.
Learn how the paper thus went from scoop to chump as the attention quickly shifted to the little Lodi paper, which did go to the Web, and then to the L.A. Times, which did likewise.
Lean that there is no such thing anymore as waiting for the press to roll.
