'Written' journalists?

Help me out here.

Saw this caption last week in the Wall Street Journal:

Beijing's Main Press Centre is the primary workplace for written and photographic journalists at the Games.

"Written" journalists? Am I the only one who finds that a bit odd?

Why can't you just say "writers and photographers"? If you really wanted to push it to keep the caption square, I guess you could say "writing and photographic journalists."

What say you?
