Craig Lancaster, heal soon

A quick word of encouragement to Craig Lancaster, a friend and one of the stalwarts of the copy-editing business, who was injured in a motorcycle accident this week.

The ACES discussion board reports he was driving back home on a newly purchased bike when a deer jumped out in front, causing him to lay it down at 55 mph. Among his injuries are some broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a damaged spleen.

His humor remains intact. Jim Thomsen says Lancaster told him: "Compared to the pain of editing AP copy, this isn't so bad."

We are investigating reports the deer was paid off by some disgruntled reporter whose deathless prose was handled adroitly by Lancaster.

Seriously: Craig, get well soon.
