"Do You Speak American" - folo

Well, got to see the PBS program that ran Wednesday, and it was pretty good. A little much over three hours, perhaps, but it's hard to speed up Robert MacNeil, which is a good thing.

I thought the section on teaching "proper" English was especially interesting for those of us who do that for a living. Got me thinking a bit. And I enjoyed the Kentucky focus given that my wife and her kin come from that part of God's green acre.

John McIntyre of the Baltimore Sun and president of the American Copy Editors Society did a nice review for the Sun (reg. req.) of a companion volume from the show. As usual, John has an engaging command of the subject. If you ever have a chance to hear him speak, take advantage of it.
