ACES deadline
Today (Jan. 20) is the registration deadline for the regional ACES meeting next Sunday at the UNC journalism school in Chapel Hill. You can register online at http://www.jomc.unc.edu/cgi-bin/RegEE1.pl .
The conference is Sunday, Jan. 28, from 10 to 6. Check-in will be open and light refreshments will be available at 9:30. The fee is $25 and covers box lunches.
Speakers will include Philip Meyer and Laura Ruel of UNC and Chuck Small and Daryl Pittman of The N&O. Meyer is the author of "The Vanishing Newspaper: Saving Journalism in the Information Age," "Precision Journalism" and "Ethical Journalism: a Guide for Students, Practitioners and Consumers." Ruel's research includes Eyetrac III,
which examined how online design affects the audience. She also taught "Editing in a Multimedia Environment" and studies the ethical implications of new technologies.
The program also includes: Critiques * Design * Editing When You Don't Have Time * Grammar Slammer Game * Gun Terminology * Health, Fitness and RSI * Improving Teamwork Across Departments * Numeracy * Sticky Style Issues.
